Melbourne Victory are on the verge of a top major signing with former Chelsea Football Club star Michael Essien expected to sign a deal with the Victorian side in the coming weeks.
The former African Player of the Year is said to be in advanced discussions with Kevin Muscat’s side.
He will be brought on as the club’s guest marquee signing.
The Herald Sun reported that the FFA has put a rubber stamp on the ex-Ghana captain’s credentials as a guest marquee player.
Now there is just personal terms to negotiate.
If the deal goes ahead, Essien will become the second player to be signed under the FFA’s new guest player rules
Melbourne City were the first when they captured the signature of Socceroos legend Tim Cahill.
The 33 year old has played for Panathinaikos over in the Greece Super League and AC MIlan and Real Madrid.
However, it was with the Blues where Essien made a name for himself as one of the worlds best central midfielders.
