Blues expect to announce deal this week
Chelsea Football Club are expected to announce Branislav Ivanovic’s new deal anytime this week, according to reports.
The Serbian international is entering the final few months of his contract at Stamford Bridge, but has held positive talks with officials regarding a new 12-month contract.
Due to the club’s policy, Ivanovic will only be offered a one-year extension, but they could insert a clause that allows him to trigger an extra 12-months this time next year.
Chelsea refuse to give players over the age of 30 two-year deals, so when the deal is announced, it will be on a 12-month contract.
Mixed Season for Ivanovic
Ivanovic has come under severe criticism so far this season, especially in the opening few weeks under Jose Mourinho, but it seems like he’s slowly regained some form under Guus Hiddink over the past seven matches.
The Serbian was being torn apart at right-back earlier on in the campaign and it lead to the majority of fans calling for his head.
However, the club are now ready to tie him down for a further season and an announcement is expected this week.
It’s still unclear whether John Terry will be offered a similar contract.
