Phil Thompson claims owners want striker out

Liverpool are looking to sell injured striker Daniel Sturridge, according to club legend Phil Thompson.

The England international has had yet another injury-plagued season, and it’s already been reported that Jurgen Klopp is considering selling the striker.

Since moving to Anfield in 2013, Sturridge has only managed 60 appearances for them, and once again this season has been riddled with injuries, leaving him on the sidelines for the majority of the campaign.

The 26-year-old has proven he still has it when he’s fit, with brief scoring cameos, but after suffering another setback, time could be coming to an end for Sturridge at Anfield.

According to Thompson, the owners of the club are already considering selling him and cashing in rather than relying on him to remain fit.

Sturridge for Sale?

‘There’s only so far you can go with Sturridge,’ Thompson told the Mirror.

‘You can’t build a team around him. You can’t even build a forward line around him.

‘It’s hard to envisage going forward with a player like that.

‘I think they [the owners] will be looking at him, how many minutes he played, how old he is, wondering how much they can get for him.’
