Reports in Italy link the Reds to midfielder
Italian media today are claiming that Liverpool are set to make a £30million bid for midfielder Axel Witsel.
The 27-year-old, who has 71 caps for Belgium, is also linked with Manchester United, Chelsea, Everton, Juventus and Napoli.
Witsel moved to Zenit St Petersburg four years ago in a deal worth more than £30million from Benfica.
He has been a regular first team starter with more than 150 appearances for the Russian side.
However, he has now revealed he is ready to quit Russia and he knows where he wants to go.
“I want to leave Zenit,” Witsel told Italian TV station Mediaset Premium last week.
“My future may be in Italy or England.
“It does not matter if I go to Serie A or the Premier League, if they’re a great club.”
And according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Liverpool are keeping an eye the situation with a view to making a move this summer.
Express Sport understands Jurgen Klopp is planning major investment in the squad this summer, having already spent £30million on forward Sadio Mane from Southampton.
And midfield is one of the areas that will require strengthening.
