The Championship club terminated Gus Poyet’s contract at the Amex Stadium on Sunday – a decision he was notified of on live television while working as a pundit for BBC Sport.
The Uruguayan was suspended in May whilst the club determined whether or not his comments after his side’s play-off semi-final loss to Crystal Palace had breached his contract.
It would now be very difficult for Poyet to work at the club anymore but he has stated his desire to appeal although Brighton do not see their future with the 45-year-old at the helm.
And SportsDirect News understands that Meulensteen, who is uncertain about his future at Old Trafford since David Moyes took over the managerial role, is on Brighton’s list of candidates to become their next full-time manager.
