Battle of the two £50million strikers – Cavani vs Falaco
Aside from the Manchester Derby, Sunday sees two of the richest clubs in world football go head to head. Despite a battle between two top teams, it can’t be ignored that two of the best finishers in world football also go face to face.
The summer transfer window was headlined by the seemingly endless Cavani saga. After reported interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Juventus and Atletico Madrid, Edinson Cavani finally joined PSG for a colossal £53.8million. Falcao likewise was a target for a host of European clubs, but ended up joining up with Ligue 1 new boys Monaco for £50million, earning a reported £250,000 per week.
Both players have an equally impressive club record. Cavani scoring 78 goals in 104 Serie A games for Napoli – Falcao 52 goals in 68 league games for Atletico.
Since moving to France, both have started the season well in terms of goals. However, questions are still being asked about the pair. Can the Cavani Ibrahimovic partnership work? Also, what is Falcao’s real motivating factor?
All things considered, both of the South American’s have acclimatised to Ligue 1 well so far. This early season clash could well go a long way in determining the momentum for the rest of the season.
