The forward has enjoyed a sensational breakthrough year at United
Marcus Rashford admits Manchester United was the only club he wanted to sign for, despite other teams pursuing him as a youngster.
The 18-year-old has risen through the Red Devils’ academy and made his breakthrough in February this year, with a stunning debut performance against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, scoring two goals.
However, despite Rashford being subject of interest from several clubs, the forward had his eyes set on a move to Old Trafford, which has since proved to be the perfect choice for the England international.
“There was a connection between Fletcher Moss and United especially, and the man that was the link urged me to go to United,” said Rashford.
“There were a few teams at the same time who wanted me to train at their teams but for me, United were the only option.”
Rashford’s opportunity in the United first team last season, under former boss Louis Van Gaal, came somewhat by fortune. A late injury to Anthony Martial prompted the United youngster to be forced into the starting line-up against Midtjylland.
And what has happened to United forward since has been meteoric to say the least. In the space of three months Rashford went from unknown academy star to senior England international, scoring on his Premier League and international debuts along the way.
Rashford’s form hasn’t shown any sign of slowing this season, either, despite Mourinho bringing in Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer. The 18-year-old has already netted three Premier League goals, four in all competitions, and is pushing for a place in Mourinho’s starting XI.
The United star has even admitted that he felt he would score on his debut, early this year.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling scoring. You hear all the fans cheering and you just have to settle your nerves,” Rashford added.
“You never know what it’s going to be like until the game’s started and when it started I had a feeling I was going to score a goal or help to create a goal.”
