Sunderland closing in on Mannone deal

Vito Mannone looks to be heading north. The 25 year-old keeper is surplus to requirements at Arsenal and the Gooners are reportedly keen to release him for around ÂŁ3m.

Officials from both Arsenal and Sunderland were in discussion yesterday afternoon and are thought to have agreed the fee.

The Italian joined Arsenal’s youth team as an 18 year-old and has found it difficult to win the Number 1 spot, even with various opportunities.

However, with appearances in every season since his move and loan deals with both Barnsley and Hull City, Mannone is not short of experience.

With the imminent arrival of Julio Cesar from QPR, Arsenal are looking to strengthen the Goal-Keeping position and Mannone seems to be the one going in the opposite direction.

Sunderland have lost Simon Mignolet to Liverpool and will be in the market for a replacement.

Weather of not Mannone will be the new Number 1 remains unclear but he will certainly add to the Sunderland squad.
