With both teams going through rocky patches, three-points were crucial for both, but it was the English champions that took home the spoils after a brace from youngsters Adnan Januzaj.

Things were looking worrying once again for David Moyes after Craig Gardner gave the hosts the lead, but two second-half goals from Januzaj provided a much-needed win for the United boss.

Below you can read some match reaction from last night’s game.

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick, speaking about Adnan Januzaj:

“He is at the right place and he is going to learn an awful lot here. He has a great chance, he has really gone up a level over pre-season.”

Manchester United manager David Moyes:

“I thought we played well with the exception of the opening five or 10 minutes. I am pleased we have won, I am not going to get too excited. At the moment we scored, we needed it but I wasn’t getting too low. I thought it was exciting and I enjoyed it today.”

On Adnan Januzaj:

“He is a wonderful player, he is someone who we think a lot of. I have tried to get him in the team over the last few weeks but for various reasons it did not happen.

“He is a really good player, he can do most things and play in lots of different positions. He is a real talent. I gave Wayne Rooney and Ross Barkley their debuts at Everton and he is certainly in their category too.”

Sunderland caretaker manager Kevin Ball:

“I thought the first half we worked every so well. I thought we deserved the goal and we had a couple more chances.

“Half time comes but you are aware that the opposition will come out firing in the second half and that is what they did. In the Premier League you need to take your chances.”

On his own future:

“I am going to speak to the powers that be and find out how they want to take things forward and see what happens then.”
