Winger sustains suspected knee and ankle ligament injuries

Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to miss a couple of months after suffering suspected knee and ankle ligament injuries during the 2-0 defeat to FC Barcelona.

The winger has been hampered with injury problems throughout his career already and the latest setback will be a massive blow to the England international, especially with Euros just a few months away.

Chamberlain was withdrawn after 50-minutes against Barcelona on Tuesday night at the Emirates Stadium, in a game which saw Lionel Messi score a brace to all-but end Arsenal‘s Champions League campaign.

Serious Injury

The 22-year-old was spotted leaving the Emirates on crutches and has been sent to receive scans today, but first thoughts indicate that it’s a double ligament injury to his knee and ankle.

According to reports, the Gunners are still accessing him and expect a more detailed update tomorrow, but it’s believed he could be out of action until the end of March.

If that is the case, it will provide Chamberlain with an uphill battle to be fit in time for the European Championships in the summer.
