Disgraced England manager could be back sooner than thought

Sam Allardyce could be in the Premier League sooner than we expected, and back in charge of Sunderland, should the club complete a takeover with a Chinese conglomerate in the near future.

Current manager David Moyes is already under pressure at the club after failing to win a game so far this season.

And Big Sam, who was forced to quit England after just one game in charge, is thought to be in the frame for a second spell.

Owner Ellis Short is desperate for Moyes to succeed, but knows results have to improve.

Allardyce took over at Sunderland about a year ago, with the team in a similar situation, and guided them to safety before leaving for the national team job.

Moyes last night received a vote of confidence from chief executive Martin Bain.

He said: “It’s been a difficult and turbulent start.

“From a footballing perspective, we are not where we want to be.

“But David understands the job he has come to do, and I have come to do, is to build and almost rebuild.”
