Dele Alli has lavished praise on teammate Serge Aurier following his stunning effort against Tranmere Rovers during their FA Cup match.

The Frenchman scored the opening goal with a 25-yard scorcher to let the floodgates open for Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspur midfield ace Dele Alli has hailed teammate Serge Aurier’s stunning effort to open the scoring against Tranmere Rovers during their FA Cup match. The French right back, who made his return to the starting lineup after a short injury lay-off, scored the first goal of the match with a 25 yard scorcher after which the floodgates opened for Spurs. The north London club took their opposition to the sword and scored seven goals against the Rovers with striker Fernando Llorente clinching a hat-trick while Aurier scoring another from close range. Harry Kane and Heung Min Son notched up one goal apiece to complete the rout.

The Englishman said, “It took us a while, we knew it wouldn’t be easy and it was about attitude and mentality. A ‘wonder strike’ is what it takes sometimes at a place like this. They were defending well and it took a bit of quality to break them down. In the second half we showed our quality.”

He added, “We know the quality we have in attack. They would have wanted a replay and, for us, we wanted to leave with a comfortable win. It was a top performance.”

Aurier himself was also present for commenting on the win. He said, “I’m happy for my two goals and happy for the team that we won. We were a good team and want to keep going for the next round. It was a big moment for me and the team, and we won a good game. Now we must stay focused for the next game.”
