Premier League official Andre marriner has been under the microscope in the last few days as he shockingly managed to send off the wrong player in Chelsea’s demolition of Arsenal on Saturday.
It may come as a surprise to many that the experienced referee has been given the go-ahead to watch over Saturday’s game at St Mary’s.
There was an uproar in the footballing community after the bizarre decison was made by Marriner for Kieron Gibbs to be dismissed when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was the player who committed the offence.
After the match, the Professional Game Match Officials Ltd, the referees’ body, issued a statement saying: “Andre is an experienced referee and is obviously disappointed that an error of mistaken identity was made.
