Defender was wanted by Arsenal and Chelsea
Antonio Rudiger has revealed why he chose a season-long loan move to AS Roma instead of choosing to join one of Arsenal or Chelsea.
The Stuttgart centre-back was strongly linked with a move away from the Bundesliga outfit, with the Premier League duo keen, but yesterday he was unveiled as an Roma player after agreeing to a season-long loan.
The 22-year-old was wanted by the English duo, with Chelsea reportedly the favourites to land him as they’re in the market for a new central defender.
However, yesterday he was unveiled as a Roma player, and he admitted that the culture helped make his mind up about his move.
Player Reveals Decision
“I chose Rome because it’s a great city with a lot of culture and I want to be a part of this great team.
“There are a lot of great players here like Totti, Edin Dzeko, Pjanic, Maicon and Gervinho. I think we have a very good team.
“I want to be 100% fit to help the team and I came here to win the Scudetto. And for me personally, I want to develop further as a player and human being.”
Chelsea will continue their quest for Everton‘s John Stones, whilst Arsenal have focused their attentions elsewhere.
