Arda Turan to end Barcelona nightmare and return to Turkey

Arda Turan could be about to end his disastrous spell with Barcelona and return to Turkey, according to reports from Istanbul-based source Mynet this week.

However, rather than return to former home Galatasaray, it’s rivals Fenerbahce who are supposedly keen on bringing the 30 year-old back to the Turkish Super Lig.

Arda has failed to impress since moving to the Camp Nou from Atletico Madrid in 2015, but has been hard for the Catalan club to offload given that he has a contract for another 3 and a half years still.

He has spent most of the season so far on the sidelines with various injuries, but it seems that he is not in manager Ernesto Valverde’s plans regardless and will have to leave if he wants to play first team football.

It doesn’t look like he will have a lack of options though despite his poor form. Inter Milan and Monaco are said to be monitoring his situation, and there is also the option to play in China for big money.

A move to Fenerbahce would be controversial given that Arda is a former Galatasaray captain and icon. He is already unpopular with many fans in Turkey to his political views and poor performances for the national team.

Still, a return to his home nation would be huge and could be the spark he needs to start reproducing the type of form he showed particularly for Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone.

Reports say that Fener have already been in touch with Barca regarding a transfer, and they would probably be able to get him fairly cheaply given his lack of involvement with the first team.
