Arsenal and Chelsea dealt Khedira blow

Arsenal and Chelsea have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Sami Khedira, with his team-mate Luka Modric having suffered a thigh injury. Modric will be out for around three months so the German will likely be used in his place.

It means that the Gunners and the Blues may have to wait until next summer to make a fresh move for the midfielder. Khedira is believed to want out of the Bernabeu and it was expected that he would leave La Liga in January and move elsewhere, with Madrid getting cash rather than letting him leave for nothing at the end of the season. However, due to this injury, it now seems unlikely.

Both Arsenal and Chelse have been interested since the summer, with Jose Mourinho keen on a reunion and Arsene Wenger making him one of his main priority signings. But, with this injury, they may both have to look elsewhere for some midfield reinforcements.
