Serie A side put whopping price-tag on striker

Arsenal and Chelsea would be ‘fools’ says Napoli president if they were willing to meet the club’s price-tag for star striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis insists he will not let the Argentina international, regardless of the fact there is heavy interest from a number of Champions League clubs.

Trio Interested

Arsenal are lining up a bid of £23million for the 27-year-old, with Premier League champions Chelsea and Champions League runners-up Juventus also being keen admirers of the forward.

However, it is looking unlikely that a transfer will occur between any of the clubs as they all are nowhere near the £72million release clause that is inserted in the striker’s contract.

De Laurentiis revealed that the Italian giants will only consider selling Higuain if a suitor triggers the clause in his deal.

Clause Must Be Met

He said: “Higuain? If a player has a contract, this contract must be respected.

“Then, if there comes a fool who meets the figure in the clause, then one (has to) consider. Otherwise he remains.” he added.

The former Real Madrid star has been in impressive form this season, with him scoring 18 goals in the Serie A last campaign and has confirmed that he wants to remain in Naples.
