According to reports, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, is keen to do a player-swap deal with rivals Manchester United.
It’s believed that United are keen on signing centre-back Thomas Vermaelen after he fell down the pecking order due to Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker taking the central role at the heart of the Gunners’ back-four.
With The Red Devils wanting the Belgium, Wenger is keen to offer a player-swap deal as he eyes English duo Thomas Cleverley and Chris Smalling.
It’s thought that under Louis Van Gaal, the two young Englishmen will be surplus to requirements and will barely feature next season, and that may mean Wenger can strike the deal he wants.
Wenger will only be willing to sell his club-captain, if he can find a suitable replacement, or if he can strike the swap deal with United.
