In a devastating blow to Arsenal’s midfield, Thomas Partey has been ruled out for the rest of the year due to injury. The absence of the Ghanaian midfielder adds to the Gunners’ growing injury concerns, with several important players presently out.
Partey’s setback comes at a difficult moment for Arsenal, which is dealing with a lack of balance in the midfield. Manager Mikel Arteta has been juggling between No.10s and No.6s in his team, and the team faces a big issue in the absence of a natural No.8.
With Partey out, Arteta must now negotiate the midfield conundrum with the limited choices available to him. While Declan Rice is still a strong contender, Arteta sees him as a long-term No.6. Jorginho has recently been used in a deeper role, with Rice playing alongside Odegaard or Havertz.
Partey’s displeasure with his playing time has been discussed, and says of a possible exit in the coming transfer windows have spread. Since joining Arsenal for £45 million in 2020, he has been hindered by injuries, making only 104 appearances in three-and-a-half seasons.
As Arsenal looks to navigate this challenging period, they will need to find a way to compensate for the absence of Thomas Partey’s invaluable presence in the midfield.
