Arsenal have received a fee of £12million from Real Socieded after the Premier League club refused to activate their buy-back clause.

The Gunners could have re-signed the Mexican for as little as £3m, but instead, they have decided to let Sociedad buy out the clause and pay them £12m up front to keep the striker.

Vela, who left Arsenal on a permanent basis two years ago, has been superb for the La Liga side, and after an impressive season in Spain, it was reported that Arsene Wenger wanted to bring him back on the cheap using their buy-back clause.

However, the Frenchman decided against that and has now pocketed the club £12m.

The Mexican striker has now signed a four-year deal at Sociedad and he has revealed his excitement at the deal.

Vela said: “I’ve always said this is my home.”

Sociedad also released this statement on their official site: “Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with Arsenal FC which will allow Carlos Vela to continue at the club on a permanent basis.

“The player meanwhile, has signed a contract extension which ties him to Real Sociedad for the next four seasons. The player’s previous contract was due to expire in June 2016. The Mexican striker has now formally signed his new contract.”
