City failed to bring in the Frenchman back in January as they looked to bolster their defensive options, with many key defenders injury stricken.

Although the ‘Citizens’ enjoyed a successful campaign which included Capital One and Premier League triumphs, manager Manuel Pellegrini is still keen to improve his squad and Mangala is the current main target.

According to reports in Portgual, City are willing to activate the defender’s buy out clause of ÂŁ36m after re-activating their interest in the Porto man.

Chelsea and United are also said to be interested in the 23 year-old, who is currently at the World Cup with France, however City remain in the lead to capture the defender’s signature.

Spainsh giants Barcelona withdrew their interest in signing Mangala however interest from other top European clubs is high.

Porto are set to make a huge profit if a deal is agreed, having signed the defender from Standar Liege in 2011 for just ÂŁ6m.
