Wenger has unearthed another young gem in striker Iwobi
Arsenal are set to reward 19-year-old striker Alex Iwobi with a new, improved contract, after an impressive debut season at the Emirates.
Wenger handed the Nigeria international a start away to Everton at the weekend, and was repaid for his trust in the youngster with a late first-half strike, as Arsenal won 2-0 at Goodison Park.
Iwobi impressed for Arsenal on arguably the toughest stage, in their 2-0 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League last week, before his first goal for the club on Saturday.
Impressive attitude
And while the Nigerian will be handed a ÂŁ10,000-a-week contract, he is also gaining admirers in the form of club legend, Thierry Henry. Sky Sports pundit, Jamie Redknapp revealed the former France international has been impressed with Iwobi’s attitude.
“Thierry, who has worked with the 19-year-old, said the most impressive thing about this young man is his attitude. That’s what sets him apart,” said Redknapp.
“Iwobi plays with a smile on his face, he’s never late for training and he is a conscientious young man. You might expect that to be a given for any young footballer but sadly that’s not the case in the modern game.
