Arsenal see £35m bid rejected by Juventus

Arsene Wenger wants a new defender in January but might have to look somewhere else after the £35m offer was turned down.

The winter transfer window is almost here as the clubs are looking to strengthen their squad.  According to reports, the Gunners are in the market to get a new defender next month.

Arsene Wenger wasted no time and made a bid of £35m for Juventus defender Medhi Benatia.

Earlier it was believed that Arsenal were looking at Daniele Rugani. But now the club would prefer a centre-back who has more experience than Rugani.

Benatia has a fine international record when it comes to European football. He has played for Roma and Bayern Munich before moving to Juventus.

With the departure of Leonardo Bonucci, who moved to AC Milan in the summer, Benatia has become an integral part of Juventus’ backline.

Although Wenger has Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi, he is keen on adding more options in that position. Koscielny has been struggling with his fitness lately. He is currently fighting against an Achilles issue.

The Italian giants have no interest in letting go of the Morocco international and have turned down Arsenal’s £35m bid.

Wenger must now look for other options to strengthen his backline. The transfer window opens next week and will close on 31st January 2108.
