Southampton youngster Calum Chambers has emerged as a leading candidate to take over from Bacary Sagna, who has opted to join Manchester City on a free.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has sent scouts to keep tabs on Chambers after he impressed in his debut against West Brom last season. Two scouts were sent out to watch the right-back in action for England Under-19s during the player’s recent Euro qualifying matches.

Chambers has signed a 4 year contract at Southampton, but it is understood the fee involved will not be as high as Manchester United are currently willing to pay to sign Luke Shaw.

It is said that Wenger sees Chambers as competition for Carl Jenkinson and a player who has a very bright future.
