Arsenal are set to open talks over QPR misfit Stephane Mbia after the Frenchman’s contract expired with the R’s earlier this summer. He has been tipped to sign with Spanish club Sevilla, where he spent the last campaign on loan after experiencing a miserable two seasons in West London.

The Daily Star has reported that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is very keen on the 28-year-old and is hoping to bring the Frenchman to the Emirates ahead of the new season and wants to open talks as soon as possible. Mbia can play in all positions the Gunners are short in, including defensive midfiedler and centre-back, and would be used as a beneficial player to add more depth in the squad.

He has demanded a massive ÂŁ60,000 per-week wage to join Arsenal, however Wenger will be happy to pay that amount of wages as he won’t have to pay a transfer fee to lure him to the Emirates.
