Arsenal to sign £54million star as Ozil and Sanchez replacement
Arsenal are set to sign Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir in a £54million deal according to reports today, as they prepare for life after Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.
The Gunners are long term admirers of Fekir, who would link up with former teammate Alexandre Lacazette again at the Emirates. TransferMarketWeb say a deal is close.
Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are both likely to leave on free transfers next year, and quality replacements for their star duo will be hard to find.
However, France international Fekir has been in great form not only this season but for a number of years at Lyon, and looks ready to make the step up as Arsenal aim to return to the Champions League.
The diminutive playmaker has scored 11 goals in 11 matches so far this season in Ligue 1. If Arsene Wenger gets his man he will become the club’s new record signing, overtaking Lacazette.
Back in 2015, Fekir’s father revealead that when his son does leave Lyon, his most likely destination would be Arsenal.
“If he leaves, it will be for Arsenal;” he said. “It’s the only club that can enable him to progress, with Arsene Wenger. He will not go to Manchester City to sit on the bench.”
