Last week Wojciech Szcesny reached the total of 100 premier league appearances in the 2-0 victory against Fulham which in turn saw Arsenal return to the top of the premier league. Having recently this season secured the 23-year-old shot stopper to a new long term contract, Wenger couldnt be more pleased with his how his number one keeper has bounced back and matured after being dropped to the bench towards the end of last season.
Wenger couldnt be more positive talking to Arsenal Player with regards his first choice keeper ” Certainly a part of his improvement is mental because hes more mature, his decison making is quicker, sharper and clearer, Hes a very talented and intelligent young boy who learns very quickly from experience.”
“I’m happy that i always gave him the confidence because hes developing very well into a very strong goalkeeper and today certainly nobody would question hes one of the top five goalkeepers in the premier league.”
Arsenal are top of the league and to their credit boast the best defensive record in the premier league, conceeding just 19 goals in 22 games and only six of those goals have come at the Emirates Stadium. Mr Wenger went on to add ” That defensive solidity is the basic work you have to do to be efficent at home, maybe what is even more important is to have solidarity at home because it gives you time to fatigue your opponent, time to stretch them, time to dominate them and get the game completely in their own half. The longer that lasts the more chances you have to score.”
