Signings are unlikely this month, admits Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that it is very unlikely that he will sign anybody this month, but he has reassured fans that if someone exceptional comes along, they will go for him.

The Gunners are currently top of the Premier League and are still in the FA Cup and the Champions League, but many people are suggesting that they need to sign another striker if they want a real chance of winning anything this season.

However, it appears that Wenger is giving up on signing anyone this month and has admitted that it is very unlikely that players will arrive at the Emirates Stadium.

This will come as a blow to the fans of the club and also some of the players, who have reportedly told Wenger to sign some new faces this month to strengthen their title-push, however, Wenger doesn’t think signings will happen.

“It looks very unlikely,” Wenger said regarding the prospect of bringing any new faces in this month. “It is 23 January today and at the moment I must say we are not close to doing anything.

“I feel a bit guilty always going to a press conference during the transfer market and having nobody to announce (as a signing) but I don’t want to lie.

“We have Chamberlain back, Bendtner back and I hope next week Arteta and Ramsey back, so I feel overall we have the squad needed. We have Yaya Sanogo coming back into the squad next week as well.

“Overall we have a very strong squad. If something exceptional turns up we will do it but having said that not everybody will strengthen. They buy, but buy does not always mean strengthen.”
