Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is delighted to be five points clear at the top, despite his side missing out on the chance to go seven clear.

The Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw yesterday at the Emirates Stadium by Roberto Martinez’s Everton, and due to Chelsea losing to Stoke City on Saturday, it meant that Wenger’s side gained a point over their title-rivals to now lead the race by five points.

However, it was close to being seven as Mesut Ozil gave Arsenal an 80th minute lead in North London, but that goal was cancelled out when Gerard Duelofeu scored an 86th minute equaliser.

After the game, Wenger admitted that he would have wanted the seven point lead, but he is happy to be five clear with Manchester City and Chelsea to come in the next two weeks.

“Ideally we wanted seven but at least we’ve got five,” he said.

“It gives a little bit of a cushion to play in a serene way against the other teams.

“Now we go to the Champions League so let us focus on that. It is important that we recover.

“We have a difficult task in Naples and then go to Man City.”
