Arsene Wenger has suggested that he will change his 3-4-3 formation when Arsenal face Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday.
The Gunners gaffer surprised fans by changing his tactics ahead on Monday’s 2-1 victory at Middlesbrough.
Wenger received a better defence performance from his side, with goals from Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil helping keep top four hopes alive.
Arsenal will come up against a much bigger test at Wembley this weekend and Wenger hinted that he would return to a more familiar formation against Pep Guardiola’s men.
“I don’t know,” said Wenger when asked about whether he could keep the system.
“I just felt that sometimes the team needs to believe in something new, something different, just to find a bit of confidence back.
“Overall, I felt that it worked quite well today because we won the game.
“We had practiced on it before at some stage, [but] we like offensive football so this was a bit more defensive-minded for us.
“I feel overall it is not a long-term plan, but punctually it can work.”
