Remi Garde confirms interest in left-back
Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has confirmed he is interested in signing AS Roma left-back Ashley Cole once the January transfer window opens.
The English defender hasn’t featured for Roma since March after falling down the pecking order under Rudi Garcia, and he could be available for free come the New Year.
The former-Arsenal and Chelsea full-back is desperate to leave Italy and is eyeing a return to England after struggling to adapt to life in Serie A.
Villa suffered a serious injury to their regular left-back, Jordan Amavi, who will miss the remainder of the season, and Garde has now confirmed that Cole is a target of his for the transfer window.
The Villa manager said: “Every good player is interesting for me and Ashley is a good player.
“He is someone who has experience but he didn’t play for a while now. Experience is also something we need.
“I will speak soon with the club and I’m already working on the January window. We know what we want to do.”
