Spanish champions Atletico Madrid are desperate to persuade Chelsea into selling goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, as they eye a potential permanent deal this Summer.

The young Belgium shot-stopper has been on-loan in Spain since 2011, mustering up over 11 appearances for the Madrid-based side, and after his third loan spell ended, Diego Simeone is desperate so sign him on a permanent basis.

Courtois has made it clear to Chelsea that he is not prepared to stay in London if he is a number-two option, and he has told Jose Mourinho that he will only stay if he is promised the number one jersey ahead of Petr Cech.

However, Mourinho still believes Cech should be the number one at Stamford Bridge and is hopeful that Courtois will stick around until the season after, when he feels he will be ready to take the number-one jersey.

It’s reported that the 22-year-old will spend yet another season out on loan before finally being number-one in the Premier League for the 2015 season, but Courtois is keen to secure his long-term future rather than spend another season on-loan.
