Atletico Madrid are eager to sign Colombian star James Rodriguez who is also wanted by Napoli.
James left Bayern Munich at the end of his loan spell and returned to Real Madrid where it seems very unlikely he will receive much opportunities under Zinedine Zidane.
The Colombian has been linked strongly to a move to Napoli and club manager Carlo Ancelotti said that negotiations are going on. However, Ancelotti stated that bringing James to Napoli could take a long time. Ancelotti said: “James can play in many positions behind the centre-forward. He is a number 10 used to playing behind the striker or as a winger, with the tendency to cut inside. I sent him a happy birthday message this week.
“There are negotiations in progress. It’s going to take a very long time, but we aren’t desperate or anything. If it doesn’t work out, we’ll still be a strong team and might go for a different target.”
Spanish newspaper MARCA reports that Atletico Madrid are now interested in signing James. Atleti are fond of James who is not keen on leaving the Spanish capital.
James could be a useful addition to Atleti’s attack and provided Diego Simeone deploys him as an attcking midfielder, the Colombian could very well link with the club’s forwards.
After leaving Bayern Munich, the Colombian had a pretty decent Copa America campaign, providing two assists against Argentina and Qatar. However, Colombia were eliminated in the quarter-finals following a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat against Chile. For his performances, James found a place in the Team of the Tournament.
