La Liga champions Atletico Madrid have reportedly opened talks with Chelsea over a possible deal for World Cup winner, Andre Schurrle.

The German midfielder signed for The Blues last season for ÂŁ18million, after he agreed the switch from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, but after failing to cement a first-team place last season, a move away could take place this Summer.

Atletico have been handed a transfer boost with the news that Jose Mourinho must sell one foreign player due to Premier League registration rules, and despite it most likely to be Petr Cech leaving the club, Schurrle could leave if a formal offer comes in for him.

Diego Simeone expressed his initial interest in the midfielder last week, and it’s believed that talks are at an early stage, however it’s suggested that Mourinho is not keen on selling Schurrle due to his versatility up front.

The 23-year-old can play down either wing, just behind the striker, or as the main striker, and Mourinho is keen to keep those options at Stamford Bridge.

Despite the interest from the Spanish side, Schurrle has been talking like his intentions are to stay in England, as he discussed winning the Premier League off Manchester City this season.

‘I want to win titles with Chelsea and we have an opportunity this season,’ he told The Sun.

‘I need to take the experience of this summer and make the next step at Chelsea, to step up and play a big role this season with the confidence I have.

‘Right now, I feel so confident. I’m tired but feeling better and better.
