Manchester United have been told by Atletico Madrid that they can sign centre-back, Miranda, for £20million.
The 30-year-old was strongly linked with a move to England over the Summer after a superb season, helping Madrid win the La Liga title and also reach the Champions League final, but nothing formal materialised and unlike some of his team-mates, he stayed in Spain.
However, with the Brazilian ageing and with younger defenders developing, Diego Simeone may choose to sell the defender in January, and has reportedly told United that they can sign the centre-back for £20m, which is £4m short of his release clause.
Miranda has a £24m release clause in his contract, but United and Chelsea both refused to match that in the Summer, but they could both re-enter the race with Madrid prepared to sell for £4m less.
Louis Van Gaal is still searching for new faces for his new-look United side, and could be tempted to launch a move for the Brazilian in the New Year with injuries still a real issue at Old Trafford.
