Belgium doesn’t want to remain with Zenit St Petersburg

Axel Witsel has confirmed that he wants to leave Russian side Zenit St Petersburg in order to complete a move to Serie A, despite interest from the Premier League.

The Belgium international has been a long-term target for both Manchester United and Chelsea, but speaking in a recent interview, the midfielder has confirmed he wants to move to Italy.

The 26-year-old has stated he will not be renewing his contract with the Russian club and has dealt a transfer blow to both Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho by confirming he’s ready to move to Italy.

Witsel Wants Move

“I don’t have any intention of renewing my contract with Zenit because I want to have an experience in Italy,” Corriere dello Sport claim Witsel said to his representatives.

It’s understood that Serie A champions Juventus are the team likely to sign the midfielder after they lost both Arturo Vidal and Andrea Pirlo to Bayern Munich and New York City.

There are also question marks over Paul Pogba‘s future, with Chelsea desperate to land him, so Witsel could be seen as an ideal replacement if the Frenchman does leave.
