Tottenham Hotspur have recently been linked with a move for Malcom but according to Spanish football expert, Guillem Balague, it is Barcelona who are shopping the Brazilian winger around for a sale.
“We know that Spurs are putting the money somewhere else, they don’t have money to sign anybody now,” Balague told GB Transfer Podcast. “Malcom was of interest in the summer but now not.”
“The stories come from the fact Barcelona need to sell players to finance [Adrien] Rabiot coming in, not so much for the transfer fee but because it will be about €10m to his mother, who is his agent.”
“If they wanted to do it now, which is not going to happen because that would be money to PSG. Of course, his contract runs out at the end of the season. It’s in terms of wages that they are going to have to try and convince Rabiot, that’s still money.”
Tottenham were thought to be in the market for an attacking addition this January after Harry Kane’s 6-wee injury diagnosis.
Balague further added, “That money has to come from the sales of Denis Suarez or Malcom. Malcom arrived for €40m and hasn’t made an impact whatsoever. Obviously, it hasn’t helped that [Ousmane] Dembele has played so well and [Philippe Coutinho] would go in next.”
“He hasn’t had any influence whatsoever and they want to recover some of that money and that will finance wages and transfer fees for other players but it is more Barcelona trying to sell than anybody being interested in getting him for the kind of money Barcelona wants.”
