Barcelona’s exclusion of Philippe Coutinho from the starting XI of the past four La Liga games have raised concerns but club director, Guillermo Amor assured the Brazilian of his importance to the side.

Amor said, “Coutinho’s a player with a lot of experience, one of the best players in Europe and he is ready to play [for] five minutes or 90 minutes. He’s a player that thinks more about the team than himself and there are no doubts about him being one of the best players in the world. He’s always played well for Barca, he could play [every game] from the off. Barça signed him because he’s one of the best in the world and he’s going to give us a lot. He’s got many years left on his contract and a lot to give to Barcelona.”

Coutinho has made 22 appearances for the club this season racking in a poor tally of just 5 goals and 4 assists. The attacking midfielder was brought in from Liverpool to serve as a replacement for either Neymar or Andres Iniesta but his influence for the Catalan giants has been below the expectations of a €160m signing that he is.

Ernesto Valverde is still trying to figure out a way to implement both Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele into the side, the latter of the two improving his output on the pitch this season.
