Wantaway Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin could be heading nearer towards the exit door after The Metro reported he’s held talks with Arsenal.

The French midfielder has become increasingly frustrated over the summer as he sees Southampton’s key players around him being sold. He believes he should also be given the opportunity to move on having spent six seasons with the Saints.

He joined the St Mary’s club in 2008 from French side Strasbourg, and has amassed a total of 205 appearances for his side, scoring 10 goals in the process in their rise to the Premier League from League One.

Arsenal are in the market for a defensive midfielder, having been linked with Sami Khedira for the majority of this summer. Wenger sees Schneiderlin as an able back up target to the German World Cup winner.

North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also in the race for the Southampton midfielder’s signature, and it’s believed that he’d favour a move to White Hart Lane to link up again with former boss Mauricio Pochettino.

However with Arsenal already holding talks, the 24 year old, who’s form was rewarded with a place in the French World Cup squad this summer, could choose the Red side of North London if they can beat Spurs to agreeing a fee for the anchorman.
