Bayern Munich boss, Niko Kovac has admitted to having a strong interest in Manchester City’s Leroy Sane.
The Bundesliga champions have been eyeing up a transfer for Sane ever since Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery bid farewell to the Allianz Arena. It is a mammoth task to replace those two legends and according to the Bavarians, Sane has the potential to do so.
The 23-year-old fell down in the City pecking order last season, which restricted him to only 21 starts in the Premier League out of a possible 37 (included in the squad). He registered 16 goals and 18 assists in all over 47 appearances.
Many regard him as one of the best wingers in the English and yet somehow he manages to get benched in this packed City squad. Pep Guardiola has already lost a key player in Vincent Kompany this summer and he is not ready to lose another one.
So far, the Citizens have only added Rodri from Atletico Madrid and Angelino from PSV Eindhoven. They are involved in trade talks for Harry Maguire but Leicester City’s £90m asking price is turning out to be a real hiccup.
Bayern, on the other hand, have failed to persuade Callum Hudson-Odoi into a move and are running out of time with their other targets as well. The English window is about to close in a fortnight and they will have to wrap up a deal for Sane prior to August 7.
“Our bosses have shown him a clear plan. We are very focused, Leroy knows what to expect here, and when a player with such capacity comes to FC Bayern, he knows his job,” Kovac revealed. “You can see that the transfer is not easy. But I know that our people are working very hard to make it happen. We will do everything to realise this transfer. We all know that Leroy Sane is our dream player. The public knows that, we know that.”
