The club considers him a key part of the squad

thiago Alcantara joined German club Bayern Munich from Barcelona for a reported fee of €25 million, signing a four year contract in 2013. He has developed himself as an integral part of the team and has won five Bundesliga titles in a row, as well as the DFB-Pokal, the DFL Supercup and the Club World Cup.

He was a regular for the Bundesliga giants during the 2017/2018 campaign, scoring 7 goals and assisting 2 in 32 appearances in all completions.

The 27 year old remains an important player for the club and showed his commitment by signing a four year contract extension last summer. Despite that, he has been heavily linked with a summer exit.

Javi Martinez, Arturo Vidal, Sebastian Rudy, Corentin Tolisso, Leon Goretzka, James Rodriguez, Renato Sanches and Thomas Muller in addition to the Spain International are all vying for a starting role for the upcoming season.

It has been suggested that the Bundesliga giants could be open to selling the midfielder in order to cash in. He has been linked with a return to his former club Barca, Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Alcantara remains a key part of Bayern’s squad for the 2018-19 season despite a host of central midfield options, says sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. He says that the Spaniard is very much part of club’s new manager Niko Kovac’s plan.

“Of course we are planning with him,” he told Suddeutsche Zeitung. “It will be an interesting battle for places with nine midfielders.

“It’s the club’s duty to the coach to put together a squad for where no discontent is pre-existing, and at the moment we have – more or less – nine central midfielders for probably only three positions.”
