Bendtner a target for Burnley

Released Arsenal player Nicklas Bendtner has become a summer transfer target for Premier League newboys Burnley, as the Clarets begin to plan for the big time.

The Dane has not been offered a new contract at The Emirates and is now a free agent, opening the door for Clarets boss Sean Dyche as he looks to build on his squad ahead of the Premier League return. Bendtner is also wanted by Rubin Kazan, while Crystal Palace boss Tony Pulis is also interested in the 26-year-old.

But Burnley are looking to mix it with the big boys after winning promotion and believe a couple of big-name signings could dramatically increase their chances of staying up come the end of next season. Bendtner had hoped to stay at Arsenal after impressing boss Arsene Wenger with a new level of maturity gained from loan spells at Sunderland and Juventus. He was even looking good for a new deal during the season after a couple of goals and good performances in key away games.

However, an untimely injury was a major setback and then Bendtner went AWOL in Copenhagen, where he got into trouble with police on a night out, sealing his fate in North London.

Burney are hoping to sneak ahead of others in the race for Bendtner’s signature.
