The striker has claimed he is happy at Real Madrid

Karim Benzema has quashed rumours that he could be on his way to Man United this summer by claiming he is happy in Spain.

The striker and new Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho have previously worked together at Real Madrid and have a good working relationship with each other. The Special One was reportedly eager to renew this partnership at Old Trafford this summer but it appears hopes of a move may now be gone.

With United preparing to try and lure the Frenchman to the club, he has instead insisted he is happy in Spain and is likely to stay there despite the chance to work with his old boss again.

He said to Marca: “I always say I’m at the best club in the world, with the stadium, the fans, with a level of playing that is very demanding, with the best players in the world. Away from here, I do not know where to go, really.

I do not look at leaving to go to another place.

“This is the top. There are other clubs that can give a lot of money to play with them, but I do not like that. I like football and here is the best.”

The 28-year old then looks likely to stay in Spain and the Red Devils may have to look elsewhere for striking reinforcements. It will be a huge blow for United, with Benzema certainly capable of banging in the goals that could fire them to the Premier League title.

Last season, the striker featured 36 times in all competitions for Real Madrid and bagged himself 28 goals. It’s a fantastic record but United may have to wave goodbye to the prospect of the Benzema lining up alongside Martial up front next season.
