Alan Irvine insists striker shouldn’t move to White Hart Lane
West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino isn’t ready for a move to Tottenham Hotspur, according to his former-manager Alan Irvine.
The 21-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to White Hart Lane over the summer, with Spurs reportedly ready to make a bid worth ÂŁ16million.
Berahino had his best season last year, scoring 14 goals, but according to Irvine, a move to Tottenham this summer would come too soon for the Englishman.
Irvine Discusses Berahino
“Is he ready to play a huge part at a club like Tottenham who want to be challenging for the top four? Probably not yet,” Irvine told BBC Radio 5 live.
“I always said to Saido that as long as he kept focus and did the right thing then he would continue to develop.”
“He is a player who certainly has the potential to become a very good striker,” Irvine added.
“It’s important that he plays. He’s at the stage of his career where he needs to play regular games. He’s got a talent. His movement is very good.”
