Stiliyan Petrov confirms transfer talks
Aston Villa legend Stiliyan Petrov has confirmed that the club are in talks with Dimitar Berbatov, but cannot reveal any further details about the deal.
It was reported last week that the Midlands club were in talks with the Bulgarian following his release from AS Monaco due to financial issues in France, and Petrov has now confirmed that talks were ongoing.
Berbatov has a Premier League past with his spells at Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Fulham, and despite his age, he is keen on a return to England before retiring from the game.
The 34-year-old has admitted in the past that he wants to return to England and stated it would be a pleasure if it could be arranged, and according to reports, he could be close to securing a move back to the Premier League.
Petrov Confirms Talks
“There were talks but I can’t reveal you anything at the moment,” Petrov replied to reporters when he was asked if he had been involved in a potential transfer.
Villa are in the market for a new striker after seeing Christian Benteke join Liverpool for £32.4million, and despite Jordan Ayew being signed, Tim Sherwood is keen on adding a further option.
Emmanuel Adebayor has also been linked from Spurs on a possible season-long loan.
