Borini: I Was Right To Stay

Despite his lack of first team football the Italian has maintained he made the right decision to stay on Merseyside and said he has, in fact, been pleasantly surprised by his playing time.

“The reason I said no to the clubs who wanted to sign me was that I wanted to play for a top-four club. I wanted to play in the Champions League.

I don’t think you can blame any player for having that kind of ambition. I took into account my football and also my personal life.”

The Liverpool forward spent last season on loan at Sunderland and has been linked with a move away from the Reds, either to another Premier League club or back to his native Italy, but he insists that he has no regrets staying.

“I’ve never regretted staying here. To be honest, I didn’t expect to play as much as I have done so far. With Daniel Sturridge’s injuries, I’ve played more than I expected”.

Borini has had to be patient this season as, despite Sturridge’s injury, he has still been reduced to a place on the bench; midfielder Raheem Sterling has been played out of position ahead of the 23 year old.

â€śThis is what I want. It was never about money. If that was my motivation then I would have left for Dubai. I still believe I can be a success at Liverpool.”
