Dutchman offered interim role

Chelsea Football Club have confirmed Guus Hiddink as their interim manager until the end of the season.

The Dutchman will take over from Jose Mourinho, who was sacked from his duties on Thursday after leaving the club one-point above the relegation zone.

Hiddink will be at Stamford Bridge for the Sunderland game later, but will have no say in the team selection or the tactics.

After returning to the club he left back in 2009, Hiddink spoke to the official website and revealed his delight at returning.

Statement

Guus said: ‘I am excited to return to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world but is not where it should be at the moment. However, I am sure we can all turn this season around.

‘I am looking forward to working with the players and staff at this great club and especially renewing my wonderful relationship with the Chelsea fans.’

Hiddink won an FA Cup during his earlier stint in West London.
