Manchester United’s £89m word-record signing Paul Pogba will have to wait to make his Red Devils debut, as he will be suspended for Sunday’s trip to face AFC Bournemouth at Dean Court.

The 23-year-old French attacking midfielder, who signed the record transfer from Italian side Juventus last week, was thought to be available for Jose Mourinho’s United, as they kick start the campaign with a visit to the Cherries.

However, the Football Association have thwarted any debut on Sunday, by announcing that Pogba will serve a one match ban, for receiving two yellow cards in his final two games for the Turin-based Juventus, including a caution in the Coppa Italia Final against AC Milan.

The governing body of English football released the names of four top-flight players unavailable for the opening weekend, before having to clarify Pogba will be missing from the field on the South-Coast.

“He was booked twice in last season’s Coppa Italia, which results in a one-game ban. This has been transferred,” the tweet read.
