Goalkeeper signs for Chelsea rivals
Arsenal Football Club have announced the deal to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.
The veteran has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium all summer, but it has finally been announced via the club’s official Twitter feed.
As well as Arsenal tweeting the breaking news, Cech himself tweeted about his delight at joining the North London club.
The 33-year-old tweeted a picture of himself signing a contract in an Arsenal training top, and captioned it with; “Very happy to announce that I have signed with Arsenal.”
The Gunners will pay Chelsea £10.9million for the ‘keeper and it’s believed Cech will be earning £100k-a-week, making him the club’s all-time highest paid goalkeeper.
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said: “Petr Cech is a player that I have admired for a long time and I am very pleased that he has decided to join us.
“He has proven over many seasons that he is one of the outstanding keepers in the world and he will add great strength to our squad.”
New signing Cech said: “I’m really excited about joining Arsenal Football Club and can’t wait to join up for pre-season.
“I have the same commitment to football, the same motivation and the same hunger for success as I had at the beginning of my career, and I love the challenges brought by the top quality players you face while playing in the Premier League.
“When Arsène Wenger spoke to me about his ambitions for this club, and how he saw me as part of this team, the decision was clear.”
