Striker has had his contract terminated at White Hart Lane

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club have confirmed they’ve terminated the contract of Emmanuel Adebayor.

The Togo international was desperate to leave White Hart Lane over the summer after falling behind Harry Kane in the pecking order, but he failed to secure a move away in time.

Reports had Aston Villa down to sign him after he revived his career under Tim Sherwood at Spurs, but the deal never materialised.

He was then linked with West Ham United on a season-long loan move, but after The Hammers had already loaned in Arsenal‘s Carl Jenkinson and Chelsea‘s Victor Moses, they were not allowed to loan a third player.

Released

Adebayor is now a free-agent and will now be on the hunt for a new club after ending his time with Spurs.

Tottenham left the statement brief on their website by wishing the striker well in his future.

The decision to allow Adebayor to leave is no shock, but it does raise eyebrows after the club also sold Roberto Soldado, leaving Mauricio Pochettino with just Kane as a recognised striker.
